curious. what does everyone really think of the fiscal situation in gary? on the one hand i think we all recognize the city has been abused by its leaders and has squandered its past revenue...and ballooned its budget way out of controll. on the other hand those past officials have committed so much to retirees that it is virtually impossible for them to run an efficient government today, without screwing those retirees out of their benefits and pensions.

i cant imagine anyone wants to see a retired cop or fireman lose thier earned benefits. but what is the city to do now with the caps? it seems to be an impossible situation even if they had the best possible leadership over there now (and i dont think anyone is going to argue they do).

so what should the state do? make them go bankrupt? that, in the long run will only further hurt the surrounding areas further.

Honestly I think they need the Army Corps to come in and literally bulldoze areas down and try to consolidate their population. The vast Majority of the city is wasteland. The National Guard could drive up with the Army Corps to deal with the crime.

State/Federal bailout. Recall the local Legeslation and Administration.At the rate they're going the Municipal Corporation as we know it is going to disolve anyway.

They knew this was coming long before the bill was passed, yet they did nothing to curb spending

As long as Rudy gets his money thats all that matters
