I have heard quite a bit about this controversial address to the kiddies. And of course on the surface it all looks benign, and perhaps even a positive thing to reinforce the importance of education. But what is most telling here is the numbers of parents that are saying they are seriously considering that they will give the children the day off in this peaceful symbol of nonviolent protest.
The irony here is just too rich! Back in the 70s and 80s when groups like the Weather Underground were bombing Federal buildings, you know before many of their top members were given top positions in this administration apparently without the need for a Federal background check or Congressional oversight, students were holding sit down protests
inside the classrooms. And of course that has now all changed.

It kills me when I see talking heads, so-called news reporters, claiming all this tempest in a tea pot is a misled mild Republican act of defiance. Clearly it is not!
Americans may be a bit lazy at times but they are not all that that stupid. You see it has finally sunk in with middle America and with the seniors that when it comes to this administration the words are just words. Window dressing of a sort. The danger comes with the real intent of what the words are promoting.
So what would YOU like to do to help President Obama promote his agenda? Oh wait! They decided last minute to leave that one out of the accompanying workbook materials due to "Republicans misunderstanding the intent?"
I have heard some right wing apologists make the comment that we should no make comparisons to how Hitler's propaganda machine and subsequent takeover of the country all got started because Obama has not advocated genocide. I guess we'll leave the proposed taxpayer funding of abortions as a separate issue then.

But what they are missing in their attempts to disassociate any Hitler comparisons is that what is happening today really is a whole lot like the pre-war Hitler government. I am glad so many people were paying enough attention during their world history lessons to recognize today's parallels.
It cannot be ignored that the same week this all comes out we hear of pending bills in Congress to impose 100% taxes on independent broadcasters for not having enough minorities and another to give President Obama the power to seize the internet.
So I think this 1 day everyone who cares should keep their kids home as a demonstration that no, it's not just the Republicans. The people of this country are made as hell and they're not going to take it anymore.
