the bussing issue

i hope people are able to understand my arguement explained here http://northwestindiana.com/discussionforum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5383&sid=2ad442559f4a7d9187ea68f777376235 but with all of the vitriol i think the arguement gets watered down. so for clarity, here it is again.

im not arguing for or against the insurance program or anything other than bussing in this thread. im simple explaining that to say on the one hand its ok to fund buses through casinos but not ok to fund other things...is hypocritical.

conversly it would be hypocritical for me to oppose funding buses through casino funds on principle...but to support other budget items through casinos as well....but thats not my arguement. my basic arguement is that busess, based on the limited usage and benefit to tax payers should not be funded by the city at all.

True enough but the mood of government is to have a busing program. So even if we DO eliminate it within 5 years it will be back anyway, whether we want it or not. The points to consider is the public resentment to terminating service that will weigh heavy and there is something to be said for keeping the jobs and equipment in the interim while the RBA gets it's act together. So as a stop gap measure I could see using casino funds as a 1 or 2 time thing, as opposed to an ongoing budget item, regardless of how you feel about casino spending.

That said I am not opposed to terminating the service because like I said over there OTOB, albeit a bit tongue in cheek, the service will continue to be useless without spending a bunch more money to make it useful.

Combine all the bus services into one, create new routes that tie the cities together and run it as a one ear trial period
